Heated Gloves vs Heated Glove Liners: Which to Choose and How to Power Them
Heated glove liners are thin heated gloves you wear under your own riding or snowmobile gloves, while heated gloves are a complete glove with the heating built in. Choose liners if you already own gloves you like and want to keep them; choose heated gloves if you want one warm, waterproof glove that heats the back of your hand too. Both run on 12V, and both need the right cord or controller, which is where most riders get stuck. Here is how to choose, and what to buy to power them in the four most common setups.
Heated gloves vs heated glove liners at a glance
| Heated glove liners | Heated gloves | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A thin heated layer worn under your own glove | A complete leather glove with heating built in |
| Where it heats | The full length of every finger and thumb | Every finger and thumb plus the back of the hand |
| Weather protection | Comes from your outer glove (we recommend a waterproof one) | Built in: windproof, waterproof, breathable insert |
| Best for | Riders who want to keep their favourite gloves | Riders who want one glove that does it all |
| Power | 12V from your vehicle, from a heated jacket or vest liner, or from a portable battery | |
Heated glove liners: keep the gloves you already like
Our Gen-X4 Heated Glove Liners are thin heated gloves made to go under the gloves you already ride with. ZEPTO fibres, made in France and so thin you would not notice them if not for the heat, warm the entire length of each finger and thumb. They plug straight into our Gen-X3 and Gen-X4 heated jacket and vest liners.
Two tips for wearing them:
- Wear them under a waterproof glove. We recommend it, and if your favourite gloves are not waterproof, our Dri-Tek waterproof glove covers go over any glove.
- Leave room in the outer glove. Liners add very little bulk, but one owner suggests going a size up on the glove you wear over them.
Liners also work off the bike: one owner uses them for ATVing and for bow hunting in a tree stand.
Heated gloves: one glove that does it all
If you would rather have a single glove, our heated gloves build the heat into a full riding glove:
- Gen-X4 Heated Gloves: soft drum-dyed leather with an extra-long gauntlet and a hook-and-loop wrist closure. The ZEPTO fibres heat every finger, the thumb and the back of the hand, a windproof and waterproof breathable PORELLE insert keeps your hands dry, and a squeegee on the left thumb wipes rain off your visor.
- Knuckle Armor Heated Gloves: heat up to 57°C (135°F) to the tip of every finger, high-impact TPU knuckle protection, PrimaLoft Silver 80g insulation, cowhide leather, a waterproof and breathable insert, and touchscreen-compatible fingertips. The cuff is cut to sit under your jacket sleeve.
One rider who switched from heated grips put it simply: grips meant warm palms and cold thumbs, and the heated gloves fixed that. Another snowmobiler wrote that they can now ride all day at minus 30 with warm hands.

How to power heated gloves and liners
Every pair runs on 12V, and the wiring is sold separately. That is the question we get asked most, so here are the four common setups, straight from our product pages. Pick the one that matches what you already own.
| Your setup | What you need |
|---|---|
| You have a Gen-X3 or Gen-X4 heated jacket liner and a Dual Temperature Controller | Nothing extra. Plug the gloves or liners into the coax plugs at the end of the jacket's sleeves. |
| You have a Gen-X3 or Gen-X4 heated vest and a Dual Temperature Controller | The Snap-on Harness for Heated Gloves and Glove Liners. |
| Gloves only, powered by your bike or sled's 12V battery, with temperature control | The Coax Battery Cord and the Y-cord with Temperature Controller. |
| Gloves only, powered by a portable battery | A ZR5 or ZR8 Portable Battery Kit and the Y-Glove-Cord for ZR5 and ZR8 Batteries. |
Adding heated socks or insoles, or mixing pieces from different setups? Each glove and liner page has the full table for every combination, and our heated clothing FAQ explains how the whole system connects.
Get a temperature controller. Owners recommend one in their reviews, so you can dial the heat to the day. Our Dual Temperature Controller sets two separate temperatures for up to four heated garments, with seven heat levels on each dial. The Single Temperature Controller sets one temperature for everything, also with seven levels. The portable battery kits already have heat levels built in, so they do not use these controllers.

Questions riders ask us
Do the gloves or liners come with the power cord?
No. The wiring is sold separately because it depends on your setup. Use the table above, or send us a message with what you already own and we will tell you exactly what to add.
Can I run heated gloves from a portable battery?
Yes. The ZR5 and ZR8 portable batteries run our heated gloves and glove liners with the Y-Glove-Cord for ZR5 and ZR8 Batteries. They have three heat levels, a wireless remote and a charge display. For run times at each heat level, see how long heated clothing batteries last.
Will heated gloves work with my GEARS heated jacket liner?
Yes. Both the gloves and the liners are made to pair with the Gen-X3 and Gen-X4 heated jacket and vest liners. With the jacket liner and a Dual Temperature Controller, they plug straight into the sleeves.
Are the Knuckle Armor gloves touchscreen compatible?
Yes, according to their product page.
