🔌 Safe & Reliable: Did you know that leaving your battery plugged in for weeks (if not months) on end with a regular charger is an extreme fire risk? A battery maintainer minimizes this risk, and ours is spark-proof, reverse polarity protected, and has a fire-retardant plastic housing to ensure safe charging.

🔧 Quick Connect: Includes a quick-connect harness and a 12” long output cord for convenient use. The built-in two-color LED indicator displays charging status for easy monitoring of your vehicle's battery health.

🔋 Versatile Charging: Fully automatic 3-stage 750mA battery maintainer that charges all kinds of lead-acid batteries, including wet cell, sealed, maintenance-free, GEL and AGM types

💡 3 Stage Charging System:
  1. Qualification (ensures safety by verifying battery status prior to charging)
  2. Bulk charge (raise battery voltage to 14.4 VDC)
  3. On 12V vehicles, after a full 14.4 VDC is reached, the GEARS Battery Guard Genie automatically switches to float charge and monitors the battery at 13.2 volts. When the battery voltage drops below 12 VDC, the charger resumes charging back to 14.4 VDC.

✅ 5-Year Warranty: Trust in our 5-year warranty for peace of mind

FAQs

Q: Generally speaking, what is the difference between a battery maintainer, a trickle charger, and a battery charger?

A:

  • Battery chargers provide a fast recharge for very low or dead batteries.
  • Battery maintainers are designed for long-term, worry-free battery upkeep during storage. Often used during the off-season or if the vehicle is only used a few times per month.
  • Trickle chargers provide a continuous low current into the battery to balance out the current drawn by electrical devices built into the vehicle. These are usually older and cheaper technologies, so you may risk overcharging your battery. Nowadays, battery maintainers are preferred over trickle chargers because they offer the same slow charging function but with safer and more precise voltage monitoring.

Please see the table below for a more detailed comparison of the three.

Battery Charger Battery Maintainer Trickle Charger
Also Known As Charger, Jump Charger, Booster Float Charger N/A
Primary Purpose Quickly replenishes a dead or depleted battery Keeps a battery at optimal charge during extended storage Delivers a low, steady current to top off or maintain a battery
Typical Use Cases Charging up fully or near-dead batteries Long-term or off-season storage to prevent battery discharge and degradation Short-term use to maintain a lightly discharged battery by balancing out the current drawn by always-on electronics
Charging Rate Usually 1–25 amps, with higher rates (10–15 amps) for faster charging Typically 2 amps or less (float or trickle mode) Generally 2 amps or less; continuous low-current output
Overcharge Prevention Some models include automatic shutoff; improper use can lead to overcharging Built-in circuitry prevents overcharging; safe for extended connection Must unplug basic models manually; advanced ones have an auto-shutoff feature
Ideal Scenario Quickly recharging a significantly drained or completely dead battery Maintaining a fully charged battery for weeks or months Gradually topping off a battery over shorter periods; good for mildly discharged batteries or keeping the battery charged overnight or over the week
Pros Rapid charge times; good for emergencies Prevents discharge safely; may include pulse or desulfation modes Simple operation; often lower cost; suitable for minor charging needs
Cons Possible damage if overused; more expensive for advanced features Not ideal for fast recharging of a deeply discharged battery Risk of overcharging if not “smart”; often older technology
Typical Vehicles Daily drivers (cars, SUVs, trucks) often need a quick recharge due to frequent battery drain caused by lights, electronics, or short trips Seasonal or rarely used vehicles (classic cars, motorcycles, snowmobiles, ATVs, boats, RVs). Smaller machines or equipment (garden tractors, lawn mowers, older motorcycles).
