Snowmobile Cover Sizing: How to Measure Your Sled and Pick the Right Cover
To pick the right snowmobile cover size, measure your sled's overall length in a straight line, from the tip of the front hood to the outside of the rear seat, and match it to the cover's size chart. Then decide whether you need a trailerable cover, built to stay on at highway speed, or a storage cover for keeping the sled covered at home. Newer Polaris sleds and touring sleds with cargo boxes have their own covers. Here is how to get it right the first time.
Step 1: measure your snowmobile
Measure the overall length in a straight line, from the tip of the front hood to the outside of the rear seat. Two people and a tape measure make it easy: one holds the hook at the hood, the other reads the tape at the back of the seat. Write down two more things while you are there: whether your sled has a passenger seat or backrest, and whether it has a rear cargo box.

Step 2: trailering or storage?
| Trailerable cover | Storage cover | |
|---|---|---|
| Made for | Towing at highway speed, and storage | Keeping the sled covered at home between rides and off-season |
| Fabric | Heavy-duty 600D polyester, reinforced seams | Water-resistant 210D polyester, reinforced stress points |
| Staying on | Elastic hem cord, triangular tension panels, quick-release straps with rubber-tipped J-hooks | Elasticized hems, top straps and quick-release buckles |
| Airflow | BreezeTech vents reduce condensation and stop the cover ballooning when you tow | Not listed |
| Extras | Fuel tank zipper, anti-scratch windshield lining, storage tote | Fuel tank zipper, non-abrasive windshield liner, 3M Scotchlite reflective strip |
If the sled goes on a trailer, choose a trailerable cover. The Universal Storage Cover is sold for storage and is not listed for towing. For tie-downs and the highway check, see how to trailer a snowmobile.
Step 3: find your size
Trailerable Snowmobile Cover (most brands)
The Trailerable Snowmobile Cover comes in three sizes. The product page has the size chart by overall length, plus long lists of sleds each size fits. In short:
- X-Large: 1-up snowmobiles with a short track and no backrest, from most Arctic Cat, Polaris, Yamaha and Ski-Doo lines, including the Ski-Doo ZX chassis with side mirrors. For Ski-Doo REV sleds, check the model list on the product page, or see our Ski-Doo cover and bag fit guide by model and year.
- 2X-Large: 2-up and touring sleds with handgrips and a foldable backrest, 1-up sleds with long tracks, REV touring models with 2+1 seats, 1-up REV XP models from 2008 to 2014, and the Polaris Rush from 2016 to 2020.
- Grand Touring: touring sleds with 2-up seats, sizeable cargo space and passenger handgrips, high or low windshields, and very long tracks, such as the Ski-Doo Expedition (2018 and older) and Grand Touring, and the Yamaha Venture.
None of the three sizes fits Polaris sleds from 2021 or newer.
Polaris sleds from 2016 on
The Trailerable Polaris Snowmobile Cover is made for Polaris snowmobiles from 2016 and newer. Its fit list names the Indy VR1, XCR, XC, SP, Sport and Evo from 2016 to 2026, and, from 2016 to 2022, the Voyageur 146 and 550, Pro RMK Slash, RMK Khaos Slash, Pro RMK, RMK Khaos, SKS 146, RMK EVO, Switchback Adventure, Switchback Assault, XC, SP and Sport, and the Indy Adventure and Adventure X2. Match your exact model to that list, or find it in our Polaris cover and bag fit guide.
One owner fitted the Trailerable Polaris cover on a 2025 Indy XCR 136 and another on a 2016 Pro RMK 800.
Touring sleds with a cargo box
The AdventureFit Trailerable Snowmobile Cover is cut for big touring and utility sleds: Ski-Doo Grand Touring from 2022 to 2026 with a rear cargo box, all Ski-Doo Skandic models from 2023 to 2026, the Ski-Doo Expedition from 2018 to 2022 with or without its cargo box, Polaris Indy Adventure from 2023 to 2026, Polaris Widetrack Titan models from 2018 to 2020, and the Yamaha Sidewinder S-TX GT EPS from 2021 to 2025 with its rear passenger seat and cargo boxes. Match your exact model and setup to its fit list.
Storage covers
The Universal Snowmobile Storage Cover sizes by overall length: Standard for about 103 to 112 inches, Touring for about 112 to 122 inches, and Grand Touring for 122 inches and up. If your sled measures right at 112 or 122 inches, send us your model and we will tell you which size fits better. For newer Polaris sleds, the Polaris Snowmobile Storage Cover follows the same Polaris fit list as the trailerable version.
Brand-new sled? Both the Universal Storage Cover and the Trailerable Snowmobile Cover pages warn against using the cover in the first four weeks after the sled is made or bought new. Some fresh snowmobile paints give off gases that can make the cover's dyes bleed onto the paint.
Tips for trailering with a cover
- Use every strap. The tension panels, quick-release straps and J-hooks are what keep the cover tight at highway speed.
- Tuck the extra fabric. On sleds with shorter windshields, the built-in exterior straps tuck away excess fabric. One owner also tucks a little slack at the rear bumper.
- Consider the passenger seat. One Expedition LE owner found the Grand Touring cover fits best for trailering with the 2-up seat removed, and fine with it on for overnight covering.
- Refuel without uncovering. The fuel tank zipper lets you fill up at a stop without taking the cover off.
- Check the cover at your first stop, and tighten anything that has loosened.
