Gifts for Snowmobilers and Motorcycle Riders: Ideas by Rider

By the GEARS team Updated November 2026 8 min read
Quick answer

The best gifts for snowmobilers are things they use on every ride: a tunnel bag or handlebar bag for the trail, and a balaclava that keeps the face warm under the helmet. Good gifts for motorcycle riders look after the bike's winter in the garage (a good cover) and the first cold rides in spring (a gel seat pad or a heated jacket liner). Below are our picks by kind of rider, with sizing tips so you can buy without asking.

Gifts for snowmobilers

Universal Snowmobile Tunnel Bag. Four compartments, one of which expands for bulky gear, plus straps to carry a shovel. Water-resistant, cold-resistant fabric with covered zippers, and designed to fit all snowmobiles, including those with the Ski-Doo LinQ system, mounted lengthwise or crosswise.

Small Handlebar Bag. A fanny pack for the handlebars. It fits all ATV and snowmobile handlebars, installs without tools, and the zipper pulls work with gloves on. Owners keep a phone, wallet, documents or goggles with spare lenses in it. At 9.5 by 5 by 4.5 inches (depth not counting the front pocket), it is for essentials.

Thermaltex Balaclava. A soft, moisture-wicking poly-cotton balaclava with flat seams and a long neck: an easy stocking stuffer.

Breathable Waterproof Balaclava. The step up for real cold: three layers (a waterproof, breathable outer mesh, a Milair insulating middle, a microfleece lining), a perforated mouth panel and a nostril cut-out that help stop goggles and visors fogging. Hand wash only. More in why riders wear balaclavas.

Gen-X4 Heated Socks. Extra tall, they heat under and above the toes and fit under tall or short boots. If he has no other heated gear, choose the option that adds the Y-switch-cord and Coax Battery Cord: that is the wiring the product page lists for simple on and off from his sled's 12V battery. If he already owns GEARS heated leg chaps, the socks plug straight into them. Unsure? Read heated insoles vs heated socks.

Gifts for motorcycle riders putting the bike away for winter

Premium Indoor Motorcycle Cover. For a bike stored in a garage or shed: it keeps off dust and debris, has a soft lining for the windshield, vents against moisture, and heat-proof panels so it can go on over a warm exhaust. It is water-resistant, not waterproof, and not recommended for outdoor use.

Bodyguard Waterproof Motorcycle Cover. For a bike that lives outside. Taped seams make it fully waterproof, with the same soft lining, vents, heat-proof panels and cable lock grommets as the indoor cover. Owners tell us it kept their bikes dry through days of rain, and one touring rider's first one lasted six years outside. Our guides on how to choose a motorcycle cover and outdoor motorcycle storage in Canada go further.

X-Tender Motorcycle Gel Seat Pad. For the first long ride in spring. Gel and foam layers take the edge off bumps, a mesh top lets air through, and it adds only 1.5 inches of seat height. Snap-on sliders let it come off quickly. More in seat cushions for long rides.

Gen-X4 Heated Jacket Liner. For a longer season, in men's and women's versions. Worn over a T-shirt and under the riding jacket, it heats the front, back and collar on 12V, on a bike, sled or ATV. The controller is sold separately (see the questions below). Our comparison of the heated vest and heated jacket liner explains the wiring.

Gifts for the ATV or side-by-side rider

Trailerable ATV Cover. Made for large ATVs: 600-denier nylon with a PVC lining, a soft-lined windshield pocket, and a 12-foot strap for highway trailering. Owners tell us it fits over a rear cargo box. Check his machine against the dimensions and models on the product page, or our ATV and UTV cover sizing guide.

Universal Handlebar Cup Holder. Holds a coffee cup, can, water bottle or thermos, with a removable insulating sleeve, in black or chrome. It mounts on 7/8, 1 or 1.25 inch handlebars or on a mirror arm, so check that his ATV, bike or PWC has one of those to clamp to. The widest bottle that fits comfortably is a standard 500 mL soda bottle.

Dri-Tek Reusable Waterproof Glove Covers. Waterproof, windproof covers that go over the gloves or mitts he already owns, with grippy palms, packed in their own small bag. Owners say they are not stylish, but they keep gloves dry in a downpour and cut the wind.

Reflective Helmet Cover. A blaze orange Lycra cover for riders on the trails in hunting season. Check his helmet first: it fits half, beanie and commuter helmets only, not full-face, open-face or modular ones.

Gifts for the rider who has everything

CoolMax Helmet Liner Skull Cap. A thin, quick-drying cap that wicks sweat under any powersport helmet and keeps earbuds in place. One size, with four-way stretch.

2-in-1 Balaclava and Neck Dickey. Head, face and neck in one piece, with the same three-layer build as our waterproof balaclava and a perforated nose panel to help stop eyewear fogging. See also what to wear under a motorcycle helmet.

Passenger Grab Handles. A gift for two. The driver wears the belt over a jacket or snowmobile suit, and the passenger holds its rubber handles. It works on a motorcycle, snowmobile, ATV or PWC, and nothing bolts on.

From our riders

Owners tell us they bought the grab handles for a partner whose arms got tired from holding on, and one says she feels more stable on the back with them.

Dual USB Port Charger. Two USB ports on the handlebar, a cap that switches the charger off when closed, a 3 amp fuse and a cord to the battery. It fits 7/8, 1 and 1.25 inch bars and has an arm for a 1 inch RAM ball mount; the phone cradle is not included.

How to pick a size or fit without asking

  • No size to choose: the skull cap is one size, the Thermaltex balaclava comes in colours only, the tunnel bag and handlebar bag are universal, and the grab handle belt adjusts up to 55 inches.
  • Motorcycle covers: go by the type of bike. Medium for sportbikes, scramblers and standards; Large for cruisers, baggers, bobbers and large sport bikes; X-Large for full-dress touring bikes without a rear top box (with a top box, the cover pages name our larger option).
  • Gel seat pad: go by the seat. The product page matches each size to a seat (for example Small for a cruiser's passenger seat, Large for a cruiser or touring driver's seat) and gives each pad's width and length.
  • Glove covers: they go over his gloves, so size for his bulkiest winter pair. The page lists the height and width of S/M, L/XL and 2XL/3XL.
  • Heated socks and the jacket liner: these come in sizes, so see the size chart on each product page. The socks chart goes by shoe size, so check the size on his boots or shoes.
  • Waterproof and 2-in-1 balaclavas: these come in paired sizes (for example Medium/Large) with no size chart on the page. Not sure which one? Ask us before you order.

Questions riders ask us

Do heated socks go over or under regular socks?

Over a thin sock. Our product page recommends a pair of thin, no-show socks under the heated socks, and a windproof, waterproof boot over them to hold the heat in.

Is the Gen-X4 worth it over the older Gen-X3?

Gen-X4 uses ZEPTO fibres made in France instead of the Gen-X3's copper-based element. It heats up faster, puts out more heat and is lighter. The two generations work together, so a Gen-X4 gift plugs into his Gen-X3 gear.

Does the heated jacket liner come ready to plug in?

It comes with a Coax Battery Cord for his vehicle's battery. A temperature controller is sold separately: the single controller if the liner is his only heated gear, the dual controller if he may add heated gloves later.

What if the size is wrong?

Our return policy allows a refund or exchange within 30 days of the order's shipping date, as long as the item is in its original condition and packaging, with its tags on and not taken out for a ride. Return shipping comes off the refund unless the item is defective. An exchange is processed as a refund, so you place a new order for the right size. If the order was marked as a gift and shipped straight to him, he gets a gift credit for the return; otherwise the refund goes back to you. The 30 days count from shipping, not from Christmas, so plan around that if you order early.
